BLACKBURN - Temporary Closure of Salford and Railway Road

As work progresses on the Cathedral Quarter it will be necessary to close Salford, part of Railway Road and part of Penny Street to enable resurfacing work to take place. This will also prevent access to Church Street from the Salford junction. There will be limited access to Railway Road from Jubilee Street but only for the Railway Station and local business, there will be no through road to Salford. Access to Church Street for local businesses only will be from Astley Gate, but there will be no parking and the taxi rank will also be suspended. There will also be no through road from Penny Street into Salford. Access to Morrisons car park on the Salford/Cicely Lane junction will be maintained from Eanam or Cicely Lane.

Area Affected

The closure will come in to force from early morning of Tuesday 26th May and last until early morning of Monday 1st June.

Pedestrians and foot traffic
All pedestrian access will remain unaffected during the work however, some pedestrian management may be required from time to time.

General Traffic
All general or through traffic should follow the diversion signs via Lower Audley, Higher Audley or Freckleton Street Bridge and Barbara Castle Way. For the Railway Station drop off or pick-ups, please use the rear entrance via the Vue Cinema car park entrance on Lower Audley.

Bus Services
Several bus services will be affected by the closure. Buses that would normally serve those stops on Salford or Railway Road will now leave the bus station via Exchange Street, past the The Town Hall, Sudell Cross, Simmons Street, Blakey Moor, Barton Street, Cardwell Place and Astley Gate on route to Darwen Street and back on route. Services will recognise the Debenhams bus stop in place of the ones on Salford. A similar reverse route will operate for inbound journeys but with a temporary stop on Barton Street behind the Job Centre. If in doubt, please use the bus station.

Hackney Taxis
Hackney taxi ranks on Church Street and High Street at the side of Morrisons will be suspended. A queueing system will be in place at the Railway Station for additional taxis. Taxis are also available on Astley Gate and  at the top of Ainsworth Street.

Private Hire Taxis
The dedicated private hire pick up point at the side of Morrisons will be in place at the top of Salford, near Cicely Lane, close the the physical road closure point.

If in doubt, advice on getting around the town centre can be obtained from The Visitors Centre in Blackburn Market on 01254 688040, or email visit@blackburn.gov.uk
