Railway Road- Blackburn - Closure

Please note amended services below Rosso 244 and Moving People M65.

As work progresses with the Cathedral Quarter development, work on the new hard wearing road surface dressing is about to begin. In order to do this, and allow it to set properly, Railway Road will need to close for one week to through traffic. Access for footpaths will remain open at all times. Vehicle access will also be maintained for The Telegraph Building and Morrisons taxi pick up area.

Access for the Railway Station will be via the Vue Cinema entrance off Lower Audley.

It does mean that bus services which would normally use Railway Road, will have some disruption. Below are a list of services affected and their alternate routes around the town centre...

Local Services Bus Services

Inbound Services: 1, 2, 12, 12A, 12C, 23, 23A, 24

Normal route to Darwen Street/Mincing Lane. Then, Mincing Lane, King Street, Barton Street (A Temporary Stop will be in place for access to Debenhams, Northgate, King William Street), Feilden Street, Montague Street, Barbara Castle Way, Penny Street, Bus Station.

Inbound Services: 4, 4A, 4B, 118, 152, 220, 352

Normal route to Bank Top, Then Montague Street, St Pauls Street, BlakeyMoor, Barton Street, (existing bus stop opposite Waves for King William Street or Debenhams), Feilden Street, Montague Street, Barbara Castle Way,Penny Street, Bus Station.

Outbound Services: 1, 2, 12, 12A, 12C, 12, 23A, 223

Exit bus station via Ainsworth Street, Victoria Street, Town Hall, Simmons Street, Blakey Moor, Barton Street,Cardwell Place, Astley Gate, Darwen Street, then as normal route.

Outbound Services: 3, 3A, 6, 6A, 7, 7A, 10, 15, 22, 24, 25, 35, 39, 46, 59, 118, 155, 220,                                      152, X41

These services remain unaffected. Though dependent on the progress of the gas works on Eanam, service 46 may still be using Barbara Castle Way to exit the town centre.

Rosso Services to Haslingden and Rawtenstall will not be serving Blackburn Bus Station, but will terminate its journey at Mincing Lane, Blackburn then going round to Darwen Street to start it's return journey. Passengers for this service are advised to make their way to Darwen Street. times should remain unaffected.

Moving Peoples Service M65 to Burnley will operate outbound via Ciceley Lane, Higher Audley Street and Bennington Street to Haslingden Road,then as normal

In order to try and maintain access for those who are unable to walk easily or who may struggle with heavy shopping, a shuttle bus will link the Bus Station, Salford and the Railway Station (Vue entrance). This will operate regularly throughout the day between 9am to 5pm.
