Forthcoming Road Closures and Diversions

Due to essential railway bridge maintenance, Network Rail will need to close 2 roads in the next two weeks for a short period.

Starting 11th August and expected to take 4 weeks, Whalley Old Road will be closed between Beech Street and Plane Tree Road.

The diversion route for cars in Beech Street and Plane Tree Road.

The diversion for buses and large vehicles is a little longer. Beechwood Road, Philips Road and Fountains Avenue. Please note that buses will not be able to serve and stops between Beech Street and  Tintern Crescent.

It is possible the road may open after 2 weeks to cars only with buses and large vehicles having to remain on the diversionary route a little longer.

Starting 18th August and expected to take two months, Green Arms Road (B6391) will close to allow work on the railway bridge just north west of Chapeltown village.

The diversion route for this is slightly longer, depending on where you are heading. Alternative routes are through Edgworth, Roman Road, Darwen & A666. Or, Bromley Cross, Darwen Road and A666.

Buses services 37, 37A will all operate in one direction between Darwen and Chapeltown, via  Marsh House, Roman Road and Edgworth then continue to Chapeltown where it will turn round at Embankment Road and follow the reverse route back to Darwen.

TS1 & TS2 services will not be affected as this is a flexible service and can vary its route slightly.

Any further updates on these will be published as and when we are aware of them.
